'Fearless Women' is a mural art work by artist Aya Tarek, which was commissioned by the American Embassy in Cairo via Peacock for Art. The work depicts four iconic American women, Margaret Bourke-White, Mae C. Jemison, Amelia Earhart and Georgia O’Keeffe, and the Egyptian goddesses Hathor, Nefertiti, and Nephthys. 'Fearless Women' was created 'live' during the 2018 Maker Faire, where more than 6,000 young Egyptians attended last Saturday, March 10th 2018.
Through her mural, the artist was able to shed light on the role of women in world of science and innovation, at the same time as portraying female deities who were, once upon a time, the object of worship.
Peacock for art continues to spearhead initiatives aiming to consolidate art in public spaces, and hopes that its work will positively contribute to the debate on how to integrate art and creativity into our daily lives.
