Deep colours of the Mediterranean Sea Exhibition - by ISPRA
(The Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research)
under the aegis of the Embassy of Italy in Cairo.
How do we imagine the seabed at a depth of 400 meters to be? Dark, desolate and lifeless?
We will have to change our minds!
ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle), a sophisticated wire-guided robot, capable of reaching great depths, has brought to light extraordinary and unexpected environments for their beauty and abundance of marine species, unfortunately spoiled by the presence of waste and abandoned fishing gear.
The explorations conducted by the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research at almost 900 dive points along all the Italian coastal regions revealed the presence of hotspots of biodiversity, characterized by so-called animal forests.
We will see how our activities can be a real threat to these environments.
