Ba'a was an exhibition featuring 11 Egyptian contemporary artists at Soma Bay, including a mobile exhibition on display at the Sultan Lounge of the Kenpinski Hotel, and some art works of up-cycled material were displayed at Robinson’s public beach (from a project called From Rags to Riches). The exhibition was among the activities of an exceptional weekend, with the concert of Ace of Base and Modern Talking, a bonfire, beach party.
A crowd of two thousand people had the opportunity to enjoy this art display, promising a new insight on how contemporary art is perceived in Egypt. For the first time in the country, the audience had the chance to engage to public art in alternative venues and experience a different participation which, at the same time, succeeded in inspiring minds and adding beauty and quality of life to a place.
FRTR contributes towards making public art a substantial element of human development, one that shapes both public spaces and individual conceptions, thereby overcoming the widespread idea that ‘what is public is not mine’ and enhancing awareness and ownership among citizens.
